Do you fit in?

Candidates often ask if excellent grades at the university are a necessary and sufficient proof of ability to succeed in the workplace. We all wish the world was so simple. In the same way that a six-figure salary may not necessarily be fulfilling, graduating top-in-class does not necessarily mean that the candidate would fit in at every organization. The truth is that most organizations follow a more tailor-made approach suited to their needs and judgment of what type of organization they want to build and what kind of people it takes to build that organization. Several areas are assessed before the candidate is even invited for an interview. There is a good reason why the recruitment process is often described as rigorous. The recruitment process affords us an opportunity to know candidates better and for candidates to know us better. We would like to find out if you are the right candidate for TransCorp, and equally important, we want you to be sure that TransCorp is where you should build your future.

We classify candidates into four groups:
  • Experienced Professional
  • Business School Candidate
  • Advanced Professional Degree Candidate
  • University Graduate
Naturally, membership in any of these groups is not exclusive. It is possible for a business school candidate to already possess an advanced professional degree or several years of professional experience. We recognize this. In fact, we recognize this and rather use this four-level -taxonomy to aid candidates identify where they may fall in.

Experienced Candidates:

We consider a candidate to be an experienced professional if he or she has significant work experience in a particular career track or sector or between related career tracks or sectors. Typically, a five year unbroken stretch would could as ‘significant work experience’.

Advanced Professional Degree Candidate:

We consider a candidate to be an Advanced Professional Degree Candidate if he or she is presently pursuing or has recently completed an advanced professional degree. These include M.Sc, M.A., M.Phil, MBBS, M.Pharm. We also consider candidates who have completed and successfully passed at least two stages of for staggered professional exams such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA), Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), etc.

Business School Candidates:

Candidates would qualify under this group if they are currently enrolled in a master in Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced business degree such as Master of Science in Financial Economics, Masters of Science in Business Studies, etc.

We also consider candidates who have completed any of the above since 2004 to be business school candidates.

University Graduates:
We consider candidates as university graduates if they have obtained bachelor degrees since 2003. University graduates join at the analyst level, where they are trained to provide support to more senior colleagues. Since it is a generalist position, all analysts at TransCorp undergo the same kind of training. It is a great opportunity for building important relationships throughout the organisation, functional learning and developing the highest standards of professional ethics.
